Tuesday 4/26
Theresa put the live trap back outside this morning, with food inside. We checked the trap throughout the day, but it was empty each time. The kitty has a definite schedule and like to eat at 6:30pm, so we showed up at 6:15pm to see if we could watch her get in the trap to eat.
6:40pm and here she comes. Both Theresa and Kathy both thought she looked less pregnant - groan! As we were discussing the kitties waist line, she got in the trap and down went the door. We jumped and yelled so loud that Theresa's cat ran from the room.
I wanted to have a vet check her out to see how her health was and if she was still pregnant, so we went to a local vet. As we were checking in, a friend that works in rescue came up and said hey to me. We started talking about the kitty and her whole story and how it was all fate. She turned to me and said "you should name her Karma". As soon as she said it I knew that was the perfect name. So Karma it is.
The vet took blood an it was great news that she was feline leukemia negative, heart worm negative and feline aids negative. No ear mites, not much flea dirt and overall in good condition considering she has been homeless all winter. Then the bad news - she had already given birth. The vet guessed she had 3-4 kittens. We then discussed the plan and it was decided that we would need to let Karma go so she could go care for her babies. We formed a loose plan to follow her.
So back at Theresa's home, we let Karma go. Then the chase began. Myself, my husband, Kathy and her husband and Theresa were all out in the neighborhood with flash lights. I'm surprised no one called the cops. Karma let us on a wild goose chase and we never found the babies. So at 9:30pm we decided t go home and try to follow her again the next day.
The suspense continues tomorrow . . .
